Snedden Hall & Gallop Lawyers enjoys a reputation for commitment to the ACT community that spans more than 55 years. There are two major long-term community initiatives that the firm drives annually: The ‘Be the Best You Can Be’ Sports day for children with a disability and the Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship for Legal Studies. Please see below for more information.
Our firm celebrates the role of sporting and community organisations in Canberra and our team is eager to assist when the opportunity arises. Snedden Hall & Gallop has long and supportive relationships with St Vincent de Paul, Canberra Raiders, Pedal Power ACT and Capital Football.
We also provide legal assistance to a number of local not-for-profit organisations in matters of corporate governance, contract law, leasing and employment law. Where possible, we offer these services on a pro bono basis. We are always happy to hear about the activities being undertaken by community groups and invite you to contact us if your organisation might be interested in working with our firm in the future.
Be The Best You Can Be sports day for children with a disability
The SHG ‘Be the Best You Can Be’ sports day has now been running for 17 years and attracts around 400 children from over 15 different Canberra primary schools, high schools and colleges. This event allows a child with a physical or intellectual disability to participate in a range of modified track and field events in a fun and supportive environment. They take part in a rotation of activities including sprints, vortex throw, long jump and shot put. The 2018 event will take place on Tuesday 18 September.
Sponsors: The staff at Snedden Hall & Gallop are not alone in creating this fantastic day out. The sports day would not be possible without the continued support of our enthusiastic and generous sponsors, including Supabarn, Capital Chemist and the AIS. Please see the list of our 2017 sponsors and supporters here: 2017 BTBYCB day Sponsors.
Celebrity Attendance: In 2017, we were privileged to be joined by world-class para-athletes including Jayden Sawyer, who won a javelin gold medal at the world para-athletics championships in London; Louise Ellery, seated shotput Paralympian as well as Paralympian gold medal-winning cyclist, Sue Powell. Canberra Vikings rugby players Ben Hyne and Andrew Robinson attended the event as did CBR Brave ice hockey players Mark Rummukainen, Jordan Gavin and Steven Blunden.
Mascots: We had renowned sports announcer Tim Gavel calling the legendary mascots race which included YMCA’s Filbert Frog, Cancer Council’s Sid the Seagull, Happy Heart, CBR Brave Bot, Brumby Jack, Victor the Viking and SHG’s very own Shaggy.
Dance Party: A first for this event, the Woden School’s Party Down Productions put on a fantastic dance party. You should have seen the conga line of mascots and children. Truly awesome!

Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship
The Snedden Hall & Gallop University Scholarship for Legal Studies recognises academic excellence and provides financial assistance to students aspiring to study law in Canberra. Each year we offer two scholarships which see successful Year 12 graduates receive financial support over their first three years of legal studies.
Commenced in 1999, the scholarship has been a unique mechanism for Snedden Hall & Gallop to support the next generation of Canberra lawyers. All recipients have the opportunity to undertake work experience at our offices, with the possibility of subsequent employment.
Former recipients have gone on to become lawyers at firms across Australia, High Court associates, academics, University Medallists, an ACT Young Lawyer of the Year, the Young Canberra Citizen of the Year, an Australian Youth Representative to the United Nations and a Rhodes Scholar.
The scholarship competition is open to all ACT Year 12s (you do not need to be undertaking Legal Studies) and is supported by the University of Canberra.
