Dennis Martin enjoys a distinguished reputation in the Canberra business community, having developed an enviable client base over 44 years of legal practice. He joined Snedden Hall & Gallop in 1980 from his previous firm, Higgins Faulks & Martin, where Dennis practised with two partners who became federal judges.
A commercial lawyer of wide experience, Dennis acts for many high-profile clients in the local and interstate construction, hospitality, technology and agriculture sectors. His career has included representational roles on behalf of some 20 foreign governments in Australia. Dennis draws on lateral thinking skills to resolve business law matters in relation to acquisitions, commercial leasing, business structures, joint ventures, tax, town planning and contractual disputes. He is also a specialist franchise adviser, having worked for several decades with franchisors and franchisees of a number of well-known national retail, service and food and beverage businesses.
Dennis moved to Canberra in 1966 after his secondary education in Armidale. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University. He formerly convened the Property Committee of the ACT Law Society and sat on the International Committee of the Canberra Business Council. A firm believer in philanthropic causes, Dennis is the longstanding Chair of the CAT Awards, the region’s amateur theatre awards.
