Dennis Martin enjoys a distinguished reputation in the Canberra business community, having developed an enviable client base over 44 years of legal practice. He joined Snedden Hall & Gallop in 1980 from his previous firm, Higgins Faulks & Martin, where Dennis practised with two partners who became federal judges.

A commercial lawyer of wide experience, Dennis acts for many high-profile clients in the local and interstate construction, hospitality, technology and agriculture sectors. Dennis draws on lateral thinking skills to resolve business law matters in relation to acquisitions, commercial leasing, business structures, joint ventures, tax, town planning and contractual disputes. He is also a specialist franchise adviser, having worked for several decades with franchisors and franchisees of a number of well-known national retail, service and food and beverage businesses.

Dennis moved to Canberra in 1966 after his secondary education in Armidale. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws from the Australian National University. He formerly convened the Property Committee of the ACT Law Society and sat on the International Committee of the Canberra Business Council. Dennis Martin has provided legal advice for me in both a personal and business capacity on a number of matters over many years.

What I have found to be particularly beneficial is that he lays out the legal arguments and the possible outcomes clearly.

On a commercial lease negotiation, he was able to provide a strategy of how the matter might play out. He was instrumental in getting the other party to negotiate and he helped us, as clients who were not experienced in this aspect of law, to see how events may occur. And he was right.

I’ve never forgotten that and it’s more than 16 years ago now. Dennis’ ability to translate complex legal matters and spell out a strategic plan is why we have developed a long-term relationship with Dennis and Snedden Hall & Gallop.

Dennis Martin has offered help and executed in a most sympathetic, professional and timely way. He and his team continue to do so to bring closure to the matters we are dealing with. My wife and I are enormously grateful to Dennis and his team.
