Catherine Ordway

Catherine Ordway is a Senior Consultant with our Sport Law team. Catherine returned to the firm in 2016 to assist in establishing the Sport practice having previously worked with Snedden Hall & Gallop as a personal injuries solicitor in the mid-1990's.

Catherine provides expert advice on:

Sport has been a life-long passion. Catherine played handball at the national level, she competed for the Australian Capital Territory in rugby union, and fenced at intervarsity. Her professional career started by acting for the Australian Olympic Committee in a legal capacity in the lead up to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Catherine enjoys working in the multi-sport environment, and has advised on a range of legal issues across Olympic and non-Olympic sports.

Catherine has worked in Europe, the Middle East and South America, and is frequently asked to present at national and international conferences. She is an international anti-doping tribunal member, and consults to event organisers and Olympic bid cities. She is also a Senior Fellow lecturing in Sports Integrity and Investigations in the Masters Sports Law program at the University of Melbourne.

Catherine received an Edna Ryan Award in 2016 for her long-term commitment to promoting women in sport. Catherine is currently completing her PhD at the University of Canberra on the link between gender equity on boards and integrity in sport. She has been a member of the Australian and New Zealand Sports Law Association since 1996 and is a co-founding member of the international networking group, Women in Sports Law.
